Cost Committee

The Cost Committee is the controlling, coordinating and supervisory entity for cost calculation and outpayments.

The Cost Committee has the following main tasks:

  • It defines, for the attention of the Commission, the application to DETEC concerning the criteria for the study of the likely amount of the decommissioning and waste disposal costs (cost study).
  • It supervises the drafting of the cost study and, on behalf of the Commission, coordinates its review. It draws up an audit report for this purpose.
  • It prepares for the attention of the Commission the application to DETEC concerning the definition of the likely amount of the decommissioning and waste disposal costs for each nuclear facility.
  • Based on the financial-mathematical model, it calculates for the attention of the Commission the amount of the annual contributions to be made by the owners pursuant to Art. 8 and 8a SEFV.
  • Based on the financial-mathematical model, it reviews the plan for provisions to be set aside by the owners to cover the waste disposal costs incurred prior to decommissioning pursuant to Art. 19 SEFV.
  • It calculates potential refunds for the attention of the Commission.
  • It is responsible for controlling the decommissioning and waste disposal costs incurred and monitors the payment of fund resources to the owners by the Business Office.
  • It keeps the Commission informed of its activity.
